A very nice late custom road frame in its original finish. Well equipped and with the exception of the resolvable problem of the top tube dent, a desirable machine in Major’s favourite ruby red flam finish.
The frame
531DB Reynolds tubing built on Prugnat S4 lugs with an allen key seat pin clamp, full wrapover seatstays with double fishtail motif in white, curved reinforced seatstay bridge and straight chainstay bridge. The dropouts are Campagnolo. Shifter bosses, under BB cable guide and chainstay cable stop, cable guides and stops on NS top tube at 8 o’clock for rear caliper brake and a pair of downtube bottle bosses. The sickle shaped forks are set in a Haden semi sloping cast fork crown.
The finish
The frame is finished very much in his 80’s style using a single colour, Ruby Red Flamboyant and saving a second Durban Road transfer as used on the head tube by using a trimmed shield transfer to cleverly tie together the 2 sets of seat tube white black edged gothic script transfers. He uses the white gothic script on the down tube and adds white autograph transfers to the chainstays. Appropriate Reynolds 531 decals on forks and seat tube. Lug lining in white alone.
